RESEARCH INTERESTS
My research focuses on the depiction of ruins in Warsaw, Poland. I explore photographic, cartographic and textual representations of destruction and show how they have impacted geographies of commemoration in the city.
My research interests include:
- the post-catastrophic city in Central and Eastern Europe
- artificial ruins / ruin aesthetics
- visual (especially cartographic) representations of destruction
- Holocaust commemoration / Holocaust tourism
- politics of heritage
- curatorial practices at museums of war and conflict
- media expressions of destruction
- urban decline / negation of the urban in the North American city (Detroit and Vancouver)
