• multi-modalities of writing; spatial, physical, visual and verbal arrangements of writing; & differing technologies and processes of writing.

• relationship of writing to thinking, to knowledge production, to historical consciousness and to the body/mind divide.

• conventions of conferences & the embodied nature of the conference paper.

• 'The Essay' as a methodological research tool
